When Stephen Jacobson released Steve Program in 2015, he took the internet by storm with his unique blend of wit, wisdom, and musical talent. However, with Season 1 topping out at five episodes, the ravenous cult fanbase was left with many important questions unanswered.
While Jacobson has remained private about a potential Season Two, there have been signs that it is coming.
Let’s begin by analyzing where Season 1 left off. At the start of the season finale, Jacobson is visually upset at the criticism brought onto him by the creators of Talking Steve.
Jacobson’s frustration is visceral, and might lead you to believe that he found it so overwhelming that he would not produce more episodes. These fears are put to rest however, when he later exclaims:
“I accept the criticism. And I want to improve and I’m just going to work harder on improving Steve Program, and I’m not going to get upset by criticism.”
This statement alone makes a Season 2 all but inevitable, but there are yet more indicators supporting this.
During this extended S.P. hiatus, Jacobson has been a prolific mind on the popular social media known as Twitter. At first glance, many of these tweets may seem absurdist, and at times cryptic. A few, however, show that Jacobson has had a productive period of reflection, and is now ready for a return to form.
The backlash and stress brought on by Talking Steve and other Hollywood critics no doubt left Jacobson in a state of creative paralysis. But recent tweets indicate that he has come out the other side and is moving forward:
Aside from this obvious self-improvement, Jacobson recently released a statement announcing that he is stepping away from politics, leaving him with much more free time to pursue his creative endeavors:
And finally, while it may not have been obvious to many of his more casual followers, he released the following statement just moments after a frenzy of fan calls for the return of Steve Program:
So while we may not have all the details about what a Season 2 might look like, we can at least rest easy knowing that it is on the horizon.
Will we see a return to the fast-paced precision of the Season 1 pilot, or will Jacobson further explore the patient, free-flowing modernist style of Season 1 Episode 4? We can’t be certain which direction this new season will take, but the fans (now known as BeStevers) are certainly ready for whatever Jacobson has in store.
